H air Relaxers is a chemical process to stretch your kinky curl pattern. This product comes in a creamy white substance and can be sold everywhere from grocery stores to beauty supply stores. There are private independent distributors that will only supply this product to Hairstylists.
Most people like to use relaxers for their overly coarse natural hair or for short hair to lay flat and to have a silky finish. A lot of times natural curly hair is hard to maintain and manage especially when you're in between salon visits or when every single drop of sweat makes your hair puffy.
Some people are against this product while some don't have any issues with going through with this chemical process. As for Laid Pretty Boutique, I have mix emotions about this topic. I've experience the good and bad of a hair relaxer through myself and clients. Here are a few pros and cons along with solutions to some issues that can help relaxed hair:
Although relaxers are convenient, we have to make sure that going through this chemical process to not over process the natural hair to see results. Most of the times the disadvangtes of a relaxer come from allowing the process to be longer than 10 minutes and that's with the process of applying the relaxer. Anything more than 10 minutes is making your hair permantly straight. What's wrong that, right?! But think about it, your natural hair is never meant to be permantly straight, that's why when you go to style your hair it's limp and shedding or have a brittle texture to it.
It's so important to relax your hair properly but I highly recommend a professional— peferably a hair care specialist to take you through this process. The shampoos that's being used play a major role on the condition of your hair after a chemical process. At our salon we like to use plant based shampoos infused with natural oils and sulfate free. Just to give that balance and moisture back into the hair, whether it's a short cut or normal length hair.
If your hair is already damaged from relaxers, don't worry you can save what's left. Deep conditioners and hot oil treatments are now our best friends! Twice per month is best for a deep condtioner and oil treatments until your hair is back to its normal condition. Trims are also our friends! Once per month is good unless you have severe damage to your ends than it would be twice a month.
Slow down on your touchups! Some people will say 6-8 weeks is ok but I say it depends on the speed of your new growth and the length of your hair. Short length hair is typically every 3-6 weeks being as though the speed of new growth is quicker. Normal length hair is usually every 12 to 24 weeks. Eventually you'll get tired of the relaxers or you'll want to come out of a short hair cut so it'll be easier to make the transition from relaxed to natural hair again.
Our treatments are also infused with plant based natural oils that the scalp can easily absorb. Since these oils are organic, it gives the hair a natural shine and well balance moisture.
Never give up on your hair! We are here to help!
